Passion is the driving force behind both individual success and effective leadership, providing the relentless determination needed to overcome challenges and achieve goals. It inspires and influences others, fostering resilience, innovation, and authenticity. Passionate leaders not only excel themselves but also empower others to reach their full potential, making it a cornerstone of success and leadership excellence.
Cindy Norcott, the chief executive officer of Pro Talent, is one such passionate leader. Cindy has extensive 29 years of experience in the business industry. In March 1994, she established Pro Talent, a company that specializes in placing temporary, contract, and permanent staff across various sectors, from administration, accounts and finance, to medical, technical, and insurance. Their services extend beyond South Africa to international and remote placements.
Cindy leads a team of dedicated recruiters who share the company’s core value of prioritizing people. Her passion lies in driving business growth and helping individuals achieve their full potential. She is a captivating speaker who regularly delivers motivational talks on goal setting, success, motivation, and management, furthering her expertise in business and inspiring others.
Cindy Norcott launched her business three decades ago at the age of 23 while working at a recruitment agency. Driven by her passion for connecting people with jobs, she took a leap of faith and started Pro Talent from her home following her resignation. The initial years were challenging, but her perseverance paid off as the company flourished, and she gained valuable business insights after expanding her team.
Pro Talent’s tagline, “a heart for people,” reflects Cindy’s guiding principle in decision-making. Each decision is evaluated based on whether it demonstrates a genuine concern for people. The company believes in its ability to contribute to the South African economy. Placing a person in a job is seen as a life-changing event, marked by the ringing of a bell in celebration.
Each placement also means adding value to the hiring company, potentially aiding in its growth and profitability. Making a meaningful impact is a rewarding aspect of their work. Cindy’s “no problem” philosophy governs the company. She takes offense infrequently, avoids legal action, and perceives most issues as mere hiccups. Problems are promptly addressed directly and in person, maintaining clear communication and swift resolutions.
In 2008, a new law was introduced, restricting the duration of temporary staff placements to 3 months without a valid reason. This significantly impacted Pro Talent, whose primary business was temporary placements. Fortunately, Cindy had already started focusing on permanent placements a year prior to the change, which helped the company adapt.
While other competitors had to close, Pro Talent faced another challenge in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic caused job orders to plummet from over 100 to none. This led to a stressful period during which Cindy and her team had to make difficult decisions to keep the company afloat for about six months.
Recruitment has evolved with technology at its core. Pro Talent utilizes advanced candidate management and customer relationship software, streamlining the entire process. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, its operations have seamlessly transitioned online, leading to faster and more efficient interviews, profiles, and assessments.
When Cindy launched her business at 23, she faced the challenge of managing staff without prior experience, which resulted in several mistakes. Her lack of assertiveness and avoidance of conflict created additional hurdles. Additionally, she initially struggled with financial and accounting tasks, making it difficult to comprehend the company’s finances. However, over time, Cindy transformed into the leader that she is today and from a workaholic to a more balanced professional.
Cindy firmly believes that Pro Talent’s status as an owner-managed company gives it a compelling edge in the market. With a strong culture and a relentless commitment to placing people in the right roles, the company has earned a stellar reputation for service excellence over three decades. Furthermore, Pro Talent’s team of specialized experts distinguishes it from competitors. The company takes great pride in nurturing enduring client relationships, some of which have lasted for over two decades.
Pro Talent has been honored with over 25 awards in the last 30 years for outstanding business performance and service. Some of Cindy’s most cherished accolades include the Rotary Paul Harris Award, the CEO Communications Most Influential Woman in Business and Government Award, and the 3 Talk Sanlam Business Person of the Year Award.
Cindy advocates for self-confidence and discourages self-doubt. She believes in pursuing endeavors wholeheartedly and with passion. Treating others with kindness and aiming to have a positive impact on them is crucial. While making a profit is important, having a sense of purpose is an even stronger motivator for people.
It is essential to show respect to everyone, as no one should be considered insignificant. Even when feeling exhausted, there is often still some energy left. It is important to set high expectations for yourself and strive for personal growth.
Cindy sees Pro Talent’s growth involving an increased remote workforce across the country, with a focus on hiring more specialized recruiters. She also anticipates a rise in international companies leveraging their services to recruit South African professionals for remote work.
